Helping Kids with ADHD Thrive in Sports

The brains of student-athletes with ADHD are wired differently, so in order to achieve optimal performance in their sport, they need to be coached and parented differently! Common behaviors may present themselves during training and competition, and if recognized, become excellent opportunities for learning and growth. I really like Own Beat Athlete, a website devoted to helping coaches understand their athletes who might “march to a different beat.” Independent Educational Consultants would benefit from its resources, as some of the same strategies a coach might use on the field, are applicable in counseling. One of their recent blog posts identifies some of the challenges ADHD student-athletes face and how coaches (and counselors) can help to effectively manage them.
